Dry Eye Causes And Diagnosis
Dry eye occurs when the eyes don’t produce enough tears, or when the tears evaporate too quickly. A healthy tear film normally coats the surface of the eye and keeps it comfortable, clear and protected. When this balance is disrupted, it can lead to dry, irritated eyes.
Common symptoms include a gritty or sandy feeling, redness or irritation, a burning or stinging sensation, watery eyes, blurred or fluctuating vision, and sensitivity to light. Many people are surprised to learn that watery eyes can actually be a sign of dry eyes — the eyes produce extra tears to try to compensate for the irritation.
Dry eye can often be detected during a routine eye examination, where Dr. Janjua will check for signs of the condition as part of the assessment.
