Dry AMD Treatment – Valeda and Eye Light

Dry AMD Treatment: Valeda And Eye-Light

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a condition that affects the macular — the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. It is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over 50, yet many people are unaware they have it until it has already progressed. At O’Briens Opticians, we offer two advanced light-based treatments — the Valeda Light Delivery System and Eye-Light — to help slow the progression of Dry AMD and support your long-term eye health.

The Science Behind The Treatment

Both Treatments use Photobiomodulation (PBM) — a non-invasive technique that applies controlled wavelengths of light to the eye to stimulate and support cell function. As we age, the cells in our eyes can become less effective; PBM helps by encouraging them to work more efficiently, supporting the overall health of the retina. Both treatments have also been shown to help reduce drusen, which can slow the progression of Dry AMD and help protect your vision. Eye-Light specifically uses controlled yellow and red light wavelengths to gently stimulate the cells of the retina, while Valeda applies its own specific wavelengths to support cell recovery and function. The two treatments complement each other well for the very best results.

What Does Treatment Involve?

Both treatments are quick and comfortable, with each session treating both eyes in under 10 minutes. A full course of Valeda involves 9 sessions repeated every 4 months, while Eye-Light involves 8 sessions initially and then 6 sessions repeated every 4 months. Treatment suitability is assessed through an OCT scan, which allows our optometrist to detect the presence of drusen and evaluate the severity of the condition. No referral is required — simply contact us to arrange a consultation and our optometrist will carry out a thorough assessment before any treatment begins.
